ABOUT US

Founded in 2008, Special Spirit Inc. is a nonprofit equine therapeutic center rooted in compassion, connection, and accessibility.

 

We offer a welcoming and inclusive environment where children, adults, and families, regardless of ability, income, or background, can benefit from healing power of horses through equine-assisted healing therapeutic activities.

 

At the heart of our work is the belief that horses are profound teachers. Our programs are grounded in emotional intelligence and relationship-based horsemanship, cultivating healing, trust, and resilience. Every session, whether it's Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), Therapeutic Riding, or Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL), empowers participants to grow in confidence, awareness, and well-being.

 

We serve:

• Foster youth and at-risk teens

• Individuals in substance recovery 

• Anyone seeking emotional healing

 

We recognize the growing inaccessibility to horses in Los Angeles and strive to keep our programs accessible and affordable through grants, donations and community partnerships allowing us to work with families, schools, recovery centers, and nonprofits who share our belief in the healing power of horses. To date, we have served over 2,500 individuals 85% of whom are under 17 or living with a disability.
